Fibre: The solution to have a good digestion

Fibre: better digestion
It is a well-known fact that a healthy body and a healthy mind both results in better functioning of the body including the digestion of food. Our digestive system is responsible for breaking down the food and convert it into smaller particles, so small that they can easily be absorbed by our body and further be converted into energy.
But how one can have healthy digestion? Well, one answer is that one must have a healthy body in order to have healthy digestion. The other answer is that the food we eat also influence the digestion. For instance, dietary fibre, which is carbohydrates and is not digestible by our body enzymes, plays an important role in the process of digestion - as a catalyst. So it is important to add fibrous food in our diet to improve our digestion.

Let’s go through food which improves the digestion
This contains mainly the plant food as plant food are rich in fibre and must be a part of everyone’s daily diet.

Whole Grain: Whole grains such as Ragi, Bajra, Millets, Lentils, Corn, Kidney Beans, etc. are a great source of energy and dietary fibre and hence improves the digestibility.
You might have seen the ad of multigrain atta (Flour), in which one of the benefits discussed is better digestion. Better digestion happens due to the presence of whole grain (powdered) in the flour.

Fruits and Vegetables: Want to have a controlled appetite with better digestion. The best option for you is fruits and vegetables. When fruit is consumed raw it provides nutrients, energy, fibre and other things which are beneficial for health. A vegetable salad like cucumber, carrots, etc. is best consumed raw as fruits are consumed. One thing that needs attention is that fruits and vegetable should be consumed whole rather than in juice form as in juice, we removed the fibre content from the fruit and vegetable.

Nuts: You can consume nut as they are or roast it add some salt and have it. It will provide you with essential oils along with fibre to improve the digestibility. They can be consumed as a snack or in breakfast or mid-snack to facilitate digestion and provide nutrition to the body.

Fortified Fibre: Food material which initially has very less amount of fibre such as flour, Milk additives like boost, bournvita, etc. all these products can be fortified with fibre to provide better digestion to their customers. So whenever you went to buy packed food, which usually lacks fibre content please check for ‘added fibre’ label.

Fibre supplements: I would consider this as the last option for having better digestion. If you are having troubles with digestion and do not have sufficient fibre in your daily food only then you must go for these supplements. Still, I would suggest that instead of these go for the above ones.

Note: Fibre supplements should be taken only when prescribed by a medical officer such as doctor or nutritionist.

Chitosan: A Solution for Food Packaging

As we are moving forward the problems related to environment are increasing and one of the major issue faced by food industry is packaging. The impact of packaging on environment as well as on food are well known. Due to the presence of petroleum based chemicals and bisphenol A, the non-biodegradable packaging might be toxic in nature and can contaminate the food as well as water. So it is best to find an alternative to such problem. There are many alternatives such as edible packaging, biodegradable phenols, biodegradable starch blends, etc. but today we are going to talk about Chitosan a compound used to make all these films, which is derived from chitin after deacetylation. It has earlier being used in many industries such as medicines, environment, bioengineering, etc. due to its properties. Chitosan has excellent properties of antimicrobial activity, nontoxicity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, chelating capability, etc. Why I said it’s a solution for packaging in...

Chocolate Processing

Chocolate is a happiness that you can eat  -Ursula kohaupt  As the above quote mentioned everyone loves to eat chocolate whether it is in liquid form, bar form, crunchy form and many more. It is becoming a food partner for many people all around the world. When people feel sad, happy or angry they prefer to eat chocolates as it lightens the mood and brings happiness in mind and heart of the people. So here I am specifying the process of chocolate manufacturing i.e. how the chocolate is manufactured. The chocolate manufacturing consists of 10 steps, out of these 10 steps 4 are done at the farm level and 6 are performed at the factory (processing plant) level.

Saturated Fat: A reason for reduced mental ability?

Love to eat fatty foods and can’t live without them, well here comes another problem associate with saturated fatty food which might discourage you to continue such a diet. The researchers from Ohio State University have performed an experiment to check whether high fatty food have any effect on the mental ability of a person. And well to their surprise, fatty food has an effect on short term mental ability of a person. In research the researchers make a test to measure the concentration, sustain attention and reaction time of a person. First, they make them complete the test with a normal diet and note the results which act as a baseline for further evaluation. Then the participants were made to eat high-fat food which was divided into two batches. One with high saturated fat and the other with low saturated fats (sunflower oil). The participants were made to wait for 5 hours after which they again give the test. And their performance was noted down. The result...
